Cyber Risk Working Group
A closed group that connected insurance risk with cybersecurity.
Aim
The group had one aim: to connect people who work in insurance risk with people who work in cybersecurity. Each side has its own tools and its own words for cyber risk, and the group brought the two together.
Who took part
The group was closed, and James selected each member. The members were CISOs, CSOs, security experts, risk modellers, cyber-risk experts, and heads of emerging risks, drawn from large insurers and large cybersecurity vendors. The membership is not public.
History and work
James started the group in 2024, in his first year at SpyCloud, and it continued into 2025. At each meeting, one side showed the other how it thinks about cyber risk and how it models that risk. Each side came to understand the other's expertise, and as a result each can now model risk better.
Outputs
The group did not publish anything. Its larger aim was to build better risk models, and it did not reach that aim. What it produced is what its members now know about each other's work.
